Theodoros D. Karamitsos is Assistant Professor in Cardiology at AHEPA Hospital – Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His previous post was at the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in Oxford – UK, where he served 8 years as a Consultant Cardiologist and University Research Lecturer. Dr. Karamitsos studied Medicine in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and completed his training in Cardiology at AHEPA Hospital in 2005. In 2006 he joined the University of Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research (OCMR) and achieved SCMR and EACVI level III competence in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR). Over the past 12 years, he has been devoted to the development and application of CMR particularly pertaining to myocardial viability, stress perfusion-oxygenation techniques, tissue characterisation and cardiomyopathy imaging. He has authored or co-authored over 130 scientific papers on PubMed and 15 book chapters, most of them with a primary emphasis on cardiovascular MRI. Dr Karamitsos has a keen interest in educational activities and is a member of the European CMR Exam Board since 2011. Other interests include transthoracic echocardiography and non-invasive cardiology with a primary focus on heart failure (Leading physician of the Heart Failure outpatient clinic at AHEPA hospital). Dr Karamitsos is the ex-president of the Hellenic Cardiological Society working group on cardiovascular imaging techniques. He is a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, the European Association of Heart Failure, and the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging.
